Meta-Blogging

Why blog? I feel sometimes that my blog has no one, specific identity, and is therefore alienating.

I started this blog as a convenient way to communicate my appearance and publication schedule. Write up post-event reports. That sort of thing.

Then there was a new book with no relation to the earlier ones.

So do I blog about events? About Wicca? About James Bond?

But then, I got more and more interested in blogging about politics and feminism. And I do that now. I worry that people here for Wicca will walk away because of politics. And vice versa.

Ultimately, I have to go with the idea that you’ve shown up to read what I write for some unknown reason, and that whatever I write might be of interest to you. Or not. Because if not, then you can leave and I can talk to myself and actually that’s fun too.

So what’s your excuse?

Excuse for being here or for blogging?

Here for the Bond. Very irritating that the official site says “download Flash” and that’s it, but Sony aren’t known for behaving well online.

I blog to experiment with writing processes.

Here because I enjoy and admire your writing. Also, I’m a friend. 😉

I sometimes worry that my blog has no real identity, but I think ultimately that’s something that works itself out over time. (Or, it doesn’t.) I would imagine a lot of people come here because even if the specific topic isn’t that interesting to them, you have something interesting to say about it.

I’m interested in all of your topics. An interesting thing came up at work today – one woman is crrrraaaaazy about the Da Vinci Code. Reads it over and over. A male work friend read the book and asked her, “You really like this book? It’s scary!” She interprets that he is scared of the concept of female power (suppressed by the Church) which is woven throughout the book. I thought you might like to chew on the whole thing – the book, the church, men afraid of a woman with power…

    🙂

p.s. I blog because no one is stopping me. And no one can. Vive le blog!!!

MJR, hi! I don’t believe we’ve had a conversation before (unless this is a secret identity). Nice that I have some Bond-based readers, as many of my other friends just don’t ‘get’ my Bond fetish. The official James Bond site has been too high-tech since forever. Check out my Bond site, which I believe has some good links up for other resources.

Sue, I haven’t read the Da Vinci Code, but I’m pretty familiar with a lot of the concepts, from studying Paganism all these years.

    Tom & Paula, hey. 😉

As far as I know, I’m a public (not secret) identity, but that might not be saying much. I’m already checking your Bond site slowly. I like the series still despite myself and my views on Sony and the last film, but I’m an early Connery, Lazenby and Dalton fan, so I’m used to others not “getting it”. Looking forward to the Craig era.

Can you nudge the fanbook site’s web designer to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG/ please? It’d be nice not to lock out “different” web users like Sony do. One example: if your browser preferences are white text on black background, most of the text vanishes… no need for that to happen.

I’m in the process of rebuilding my computer’s data, after losing my hard drive. I have to re-install Dreamweaver and re-download the website before I can tweak it. So don’t expect anything to change fast, although I do welcome the suggestion.

I blog because I can’t shut up about the bus heading over the cliff, I read other blogs for different opinions.

I come here because, well, I like your writing style and it often provides a welcome giggle (or pondering) in the midst of the chaos that usually constitutes my day.

I blog because I keep misplacing my paper journals. I figured since I was installing the software to have a private journal, I might as well have a public blog as well and save me the effort of actually updating my site.

Thanks, foxy. It’s great to have people actually reading this.
