Senator Russ Feingold is calling for President Bush to be censured for violating the law by spying on Americans without warrants.
I’ve called my Senators. Neither Schumer nor Clinton has a stated position on this yet. That means they’re waiting to find out which way the wind is blowing. Tell them. Call your senators and tell them to support this.
I would, but I don’t think Santorum will listen to me anyway…..
You’ve got 2 don’t you? Put ’em on record.
Senator Frist is from my state. There’s no way he’s going to support this. I”ll do it anyhow, but his mind is made up.
You go, Daven! Don’t let him get complacent!
Well, here’s the text of what I just emailed Frist and Alexander:
“I am writing you today sir to urge you to support the censure resolution against the President. I would like to make it clear, sir that I believe the President should be held accountable for the lies he has perpetrated, the illegal activities he has undertook and the civil rights he has violated. I further thing that he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for violating his Oath of Office in that he promised (twice) to “Preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
So far Senator Alexander, he has done none of that. He has trampled on rights guarenteed by the Bill of Rights, he has declared war on a nation that has done nothing to us, despite the fact that the only people who can declare war legally are Congress. He has enacted powers that appear no where in the Constitution and called “security”.
Those who surrender essential liberties to achieve temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin
We rebelled against the King of England for these very same reasons. I believe that the President should be censured immediately or there shall be a terrible backlash against the entire government mechanism.
“The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders … All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism.”
– Nazi war criminal Hermann Goering (at the Nuremberg Trials)
Please sir, cross party lines and PLEASE support this censure resolution. I feel it is absolutely needed currently.”
I added a few lines to Senator Frist’s saying that if he didn’t support it, I wouldn’t vote for him and that I would work to see he doesn’t return, etc.
If it were my Representative, then there would be a chance (he’s a Democrat), but with those two in the Senate, I’m not sure….
Wow.
Not that it’s going to do any good. Just found out that the censure resolution was withdrawn, basically because of strongarm threats from the republicans and the Democrats caved in.
I still think the pres should be impeached, but that won’t fly either.
I agree. Censure would have been a good first step. I hope that the midterm elections will make a difference.
I think it’s time to have Dubya treated as a war criminal. While I have no sympathy for the Milosevichs and the Pol Pots,I don’t think it’s fair for them to be punished while Bush and Cheney get
off scot free.
