Someone told me she was putting a website up on the Internet.

Where else would you put it?

    Well I do make webpages I have no intention of putting on the internet, but a) making webpages is what I do
    b) I wouldn’t normally announce to anyone if I do, they’re meant for personal use

    Also of course there is putting websites on intranets so while you are probably right about this particular redundancy, depending on who says it, it may not be redundant. If she was an intranet developer normally (and many people are) it could be a helpful disambiguation.
