1. The drug-addicted wife and the dangerously rebellious neighbor are played by the same actress.
HINT: This actress was linked romantically, on-screen and in real life, with Warren Beatty. The director is French but the film is in English.
Solved by George (comment #19).
2. She traps herself in her own car, in her own garage, in the snow.
HINT: The stars of this film are a long-standing real life Hollywood couple, and their on-screen marriage is referenced in the film’s title.
3. She is so embarrassed by the intimate nature of her marital problems that she tells the priest in Irish rather than English.
Solved by hc (comment #1).
4. “You return with the inevitability of an unloved season.”
Solved by UNCLEagent (comment #8).
5. βNo capes!β
Solved by maurinsky (comment #4).
6. It turns out that wearing dress whites isnβt a good idea.
Solved by Brandi (comment #3).
7. “Pull my finger.”
HINT: Recent DVD release.
#3 is The Quiet Man.
Nice showing for your first time, hc!
#6 is A Few Good Men
#5 is The Incredibles
#1 might be Being John Malkovich?
And finally… a list of questions!
Roberta, no on #1, and now I understand your question. I set the quiz to fire at noon today to give different people a chance to see it first. Just an experiment.
Gah, #3 is the only one I know. Too bad. I think I’ve seen #4, though, because that line seems very familiar, but my mind just blanks.
#4 Moonraker – Drax to Bond.
Melville needs to show up. I’m sure he’ll get #7.
I would have gotten 3 and 5, but I would not have gotten 6 from the clue even though I have watched the movie over and over.
All the rest, I’m stumped.
Daven, I’ll tell you something. I save old clues in files. I used to post movie quizzes years ago on IMDb, and I have files of 2 and 3 and 4 year old quizzes and sometimes I recycle them.
And there’s this one that I don’t know. I wrote the quiz and I can’t figure out what movie it is.
So don’t feel bad about not knowing a movie you’ve seen several times.
My wife says “Try Love Affair” to #2. She said #1, but then changed her mind.
Which clue didn’t you know the answer to? It’s going to drive my wife batty until she knows. She’s a long time movie buff. LOL
Love Affair is an excellent guess. It matches the hint, but not the first clue.
Here’s the one that apparently I knew once but don’t any longer:
A group of people gather in her window to watch her cuckoo lock chime the hour.
Hope your wife gets it!
She’s thinking. She says “it’s not Heidi, but it’s close.”
I dunno.
Is #1 Naked Lunch?
Wait, wait, nevermind. I got Annette Benning confused with Judy Davis.
Slightly off-topic: we got a visitor at IIRTZ a few minutes ago from a Google search for “fresh virgin”. Yes, that would be your doing. π
I’m thinking #1 is Fahrenheit 451 since Julie Christie plays dual roles and the film is by Truffaut but in English, and she was involved with Beatty–but he’s not in the film.
George, right! I guess I was unclear; Christie was with Beatty on-screen (Heaven Can Wait, Shampoo, and McCabe & Mrs. Miller), but not in this one.
Tom, now I’ll have to figure out what I used “fresh virgin” for. LOL!
Is #7 “Little Miss Sunshine”? Sounds like something Grandpa would say….
Ken, no.
I’ll tell what’s ironic. What’s ironic is
(1) I have discussed one of the unsolved films with a regular commenter here.
(2) I have recycled some of these questions from my old IMDb quizzes, some years back, and one of the unsolved questions was answered correctly by TehipiteTom.
You used it here. π
And I have no idea…
Completely at random… (in response to comment #22’s opening statements)
we just had a discussion, here at my office, about how there are lines in Isn’t it Ironic that do in fact cite examples of irony.
Rain on your wedding day = not ironic.
The guy who finally gets on the plane only to crash = ironic.
10,000 spoons when you need a knife = stupid but ironic
Meeting the man of your dreams/and his beautiful wife = not ironic.
Tom, that’s funny.
Bert, I knew that. I think we’ve discussed it. Rain on wedding day=crummy if you don’t have a tent. Plane=ironic, spoons=ironic, married man could be ironic, depending upon what conditions surround it.
Good advice that you didn’t take = not ironic. Sheesh!
Black fly in your chardonnay. Please.
Good advice = normal life, black fly = gross.
Sorta like Fiona Apple, great singer-songwriter, lousy understanding of English grammer and vocabulary.
Re Question #7: Nope, didn’t know it.
Re Ironic: Thank you, everyone! I complained to everyone I knew at the time that damn song was popular that none of those things were ironic. It drove me crazy!
Oh, my fault. I had a long conversation with oddjob about Children of Men, and for some dumbass reason I thought it was with you.
