…that’s the expected date of publication for my article on Daniel Craig & the Bond franchise. Just figures I’ll be in Memphis and won’t be able to line my house with copies.

Just dripping with prestige
The New York Times just accepted my submission of an article about Daniel Craig and the Bond franchise.
In case you’re wondering where I found the balls to submit to the Times, I didn’t. They contacted me via my publisher after seeing the press release.
I am so FULL of me right now.
P.S. The entertainment sections of the Times are still prestigious. Judith Miller doesn’t write about movies.
P.P.S. No, I don’t have a date yet. Watch this space.
Going to Memphis
Here’s the plan for Festival of Souls: Two workshops, Preparing for Ritual and The Way of Four. Workshop slots are two hours. The organizers tell me that most people use less time. Hah! They haven’t met me yet!
Then there will be booksigning, relaxing, and general merry-making.
I’ve never been to Tennessee before.
The Press Release
This went to Publisher’s Marketplace for the “Today’s Deals” section:
NON-FICTION: POP CULTURE
Deborah Lipp’s THE ULTIMATE JAMES BOND FAN BOOK, an illustrated compendium of opinions, lists, arguments, discussions, reviews, trivia, facts, and knick-knacks, to Drew Nederpelt at Sterling & Ross, in a nice deal, to coincide with the release of 2006’s CASINO ROYALE (world). drew@sterlingandross.com
So, yay me.
On the bright side…
To coincide with the dark, dismal announcement, my publisher issued a press release about my forthcoming The Ultimate James Bond Fan Book, to, I believe, Publisher’s Weekly Publisher’s Marketplace.
I’ll post details when I have them.
Huzzah.
Visitors and Traveling
So, that was a weekend. Barbara came to visit, which would have been huge fun, except she wasn’t feeling well, so it was only fun. And she dyed Arthur’s hair red. Not, y’know, human red, but actual red as in a color chart. Fire engine red. Cherry red. Maybelline’s new lip color red. So that’s my son.
Meanwhile, countdown begins for Festival of Souls in Memphis. I fly down Friday morning, October 28, and return home on Samhain itself, Monday evening. Should be a fun time. Be there!
Pagan Pride Day
I attended Eastern Massachusetts Pagan Pride this weekend. It was a busy weekend for me, I visited family on Saturday in Western Mass., then drove across the state for the event. It was great seeing my uncle & aunt; I really must do that more often.
The Pagan Pride event was very nice. I had a fine time, saw old friends, met lots of people, sold some books, and did a talk on The Way of Four which went well, despite the threat of rain. Lovely people and all that. Sorry I had to leave before main ritual, but it’s 230 miles. What I could hear as we left sounded enticing.
New Orleans Pagan Relief Auction
E-Witch is currently sponsoring a Pagan Author’s Auction for New Orleans relief funds. I am probably not explaining this well, so follow the link.
Basically, a bunch of us authors have donated items for auction. 100% of proceeds are going to be donated. Not all items are put up at once; the auction and fund-raising, like the need, will be on-going.
Please visit the auction and see what goodies you can get for being generous!
Bond Collector’s Weekend
My next event will be Bond (as in 007)-related. I’ll attend the Bond Collector’s Weekend (BCW) in New York City on Aug. 29-31. Hope to meet some cool, interesting Bond folks there, and there’s a costume party! Whoopee.
On edit: Since you asked, I’m going as Magda. She is a minor Bond girl/villainess who changes sides in Octopussy. The advantage of this choice is, Octopussy takes place in India, and in one scene, Magda wears a pink sari. I already own a pink sari!
Somewhere out there, there are Bond girl name generators, but the one I saw was stupid. You end up with a name like Happygirl Humpalot. bleh.
Book? Author? Whatever…
So I’m now looking at my contract for the Bond book, and the title appears to be malleable, but we’ll see. The amusing part is they got my name wrong. 😀
See, if you use wordprocessing at all, you know that you open a document, Save As, and voila! New document. But they left another author’s name in my contract, so you can call me “Bob.”
But please don’t.
