Cute Adorable Sales Pitch
I just upped my bandwidth, which also ups my monthly fee. No big, but I thought it was a good time to remind you:
Thanks.
A new spam twist
All of a sudden I’ve got a wave of spam for football predictions. I never even heard of football predictions as a thing until I saw Two For the Money. Do you think it’s because I wrote a review?
I am still having fun with Sitemeter
Things I didn’t know division.
Did you know I get visitors from
Krakw, Poland
Sevilla, Spain
Uji, Kyoto, Japan
Athens,Greece
Kasilof, Alaska
(unknown) China
How cool is that?
And today’s weird searches that resulted in vists:
poland fuck “yolanda”
how to paint wall socket covers
Of course, every time I post about this, I improve the ability of people to find me using these particular search terms. The crossdressing thing has yet to die down.
The Kittenblogging! It’s GONE!
Dear Goddess, the totally cutest picture of Mingo in full stretchcat mode. It’s GONE, I tell you, GONE!
Blip on the server? Accidentally clicked Delete? (How could I? I can barely find Delete when I need it?) Broken something in Florida because of storminess causing backup to previous version? Terrifying space monkeys? I just don’t know.
I’ll have to restore the cuteness later. For now, please pretend this post is cute.
A question about spam
I get between ten and fifty spam comments a day that feature long lists of linked urls.
WordPress, by default, moderates all comments with more than three linked urls.
By default. Like, I don’t have to know anything about blogging or spam for this to happen. It does it for me. I assume other blogging software does similar stuff. So these comments never get through. Never.
So if the spam never gets through, what’s the point? Who is it reaching? Who is the target audience?
Seriously, I have no idea.
But if you scroll past the list of moderated spam comments, it’s kind of funny. It all blurs together, so you end up seeing things about having anal sex with vicodin.
That was traumatic
The site was down for about 12 hours yesterday—about noon to midnight. Looks like I was restored from a backup, and I seem to have lost some emails. So if you’re trying to reach me, I apologize, but try again.
Linky Links
I’m terrible with updating my links. I think I’m going to and then I don’t and then I forget who to add and then I look at who I might add and the list is too long so eff it.
Every now and then I add a new blog to the list because I’m bowled over, and very soon thereafter I either start hating the blog and feel guilty about removing it (okay that only happened once) or the blog disappears from the blogverse. So if I add you to my blogroll, heavens I hope that doesn’t happen to you.
Anyway, I added a couple today and also decided to separate Pagan Blogs into their own category. Once I did that, I had Pagan Blogs, Language Blogs, and Blogs. Blogs? Unmodified, undifferentiated blogs? Seems so unfair. But some of those other blogs are feminist and some are political and some are personal. Some combine all of the above. But they longed for a modifier and “other” didn’t seem to do the trick.
So now, I introduce “Bloggy Blogs.” This proves I watch too much Buffy.
Visit to Maryland
The events page has been updated.
I’ll be at The Crystal Fox (two locations) on August 12 & 13. See you there!
Heeeeeeeere’s Tom!
Tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. (shock! alarm!) I depart for Sao Paulo, Brazil. During that time, I have no idea how much, if any, time I will have with a computer. (I hope to at least check my email daily.)
To keep you company in my absence, Tom will be here. Tom is a blogger of great renown. Seriously. I met Tom on a message board in 1999 and I quickly learned that, in a political discussion, the best thing to do was to wait until Tom posted and then post “What he said.” He’s smarter than me and more astute politically.
Tom has many flaws, chief among them that he says disparaging things about the East Coast. Although this makes him a very bad person, I forgive him because he’s really quite loveable. And I think I mentioned smart.
Please welcome him warmly.
