1. “Queer how the folks on the bottom looks down on the folks on the top. It was always that way.”
Solved by George (comment #12).
2. Trash can lids as dancing shoes.
Solved by Melville (comment #1).
3. “You’re dead and you’re still into party politics?”
Solved by Evn (comment #25).
4. This is the first sequel of a multi-sequel franchise. The star of the first movie would only consent to return for this movie if he was killed off.
Solved by Bill (comment #10).
5. One of the stars of this film wrote an autobiographical account of the filming process. In addition, one of the screenwriters wrote a (barely) fictionalized version of the experience. The fictionalized version was itself turned into a film.
Solved by Melville (comment #1).
6. “It’s the truth that you should never trust anybody who wears a bow tie. Cravat’s supposed to point down to accentuate the genitals. Why’d you wanna trust somebody whose tie points out to accentuate his ears?”
Solved by Melissa (comment #27).
7. This movie features a pop star who also co-wrote its theme song. Her stand-in for the film was a woman who worked impersonating her in Vegas.
Solved by George (comment #22).
#2 is It’s Always Fair Weather
#5 is The African Queen. The autobiographical account was by Katharine Hepburn. The fictional version was by Peter Viertel, which later became White Hunter, Black Heart.
Is #5 African Queen?
Aw, heck. Took too long on that one.
Five minutes is my window for a tie, Tom. You were 6.
Is #7 Who’s That Girl?
No, but I see what you’re getting at.
And here I thought #7 was Glitter, but that’s probably not it.
And #6 is talking about Dilbert… Office Space? Maybe?
No, sorry.
#4 is Charlton Heston; he was the star of “Planet of the Apes” and insisted that he be killed off in “Beneath the Planet of the Apes”.
I should restate my claim: #4 is “Beneath the Planet of the Apes”; the star referred to is Charlton Heston.
This a big stretch, but is #7 “Die Another Day”? (It’s a stretch because Madonna wasn’t really “featured” in the film.)
#1 is Sergeant York.
And It’s Always Fair Weather is way better than On the Town if you ask me.
Is #7 Dolly Parton in 9 to 5?
I so wanted it to be Tina Turner in Beyond Thunderdome but she didn’t co-write the theme.
No one has yet guessed #7.
Actually, lots of us have guessed #7–no one has guessed right.
Barbara Streisand?
Did I hear Streisand? (Which I respond to instinctively, even though I’m a natural Bette.) Is Number 7 A Star Is Born?
Hint for #7: The singer is mentioned in comments, although obviously not the movie.
Titanic?
Oh, wait, Celine Dion was probably not mentioned in that movie. Never mind.
She was in the movie. What means “features.”
Madonna and A League of Their Own? After all, there’s no crying in Tuesday Trivia….
Is #7 Desperately Seeking Susan?
Actually I did the appropriate IMDBing and it’s Madonna in ALOTO. The song was called “This Used to Be My Playground” and even was Golden Globe nominated. The stand-in was Melissa Totten “who has performed as a Madonna impersonator in the Las Vegas stage show ‘Legends In Concert’ for many years.”
Well, fuck. George, you out-gayed me (not that you’re necessarily gay; I don’t judge) by knowing more about Madonna than I do.
Number 3 is Truly Madly Deeply. And the Lavender Mafia will be showing up at my door any moment now to teach my kneecaps a Very Important Lesson about our icons.
Sorry, Evn.
It was the baseball part, and my inability to stop searching IMDB.
#6 is State & main
Finally! I thought I was going to have to post hints.
