Thanks so much to arghous for his unusual guest trivia while I was gallivanting in Hollywood. Here’s some character math. The equation should equal a movie.
1. Alfie + de Wynter = Kipling?
Solved by Tom Hilton.
2. Alfie + Hamlet = science fiction?
Solved by Tom Hilton.
3. Godfather plus Janet’s ex = The Bank Job?
Solved by Evn.
4. Ripley + Judge Turpin = Trekkers?
Solved by Melville.
5. Trewlaney + the Prime Minister = Becoming Jane?
Solved by Christina.
6. Wednesday + a Friend = opposition?
Solved by Tom Hilton.
7. Maria + Crockett = hunt?
Solved by Daven, George, & Hogan.
1 is The Man Who Would Be King (Michael Caine in Alfie, Sean Connery in The Avengers).
2 is Gattaca (Jude Law in Alfie, Ethan Hawke in Hamlet)
And 6 is The Opposite of Sex (Christina Ricci in the Addams Family, Lisa Kudrow in Friends)
#4 is Galaxy Quest (Sigourney Weaver in Alien, Aliens, etc, and Alan Rickman in Sweeney Todd.)
#5 is Sense & Sensibility.
I think I made #3 weird & obscure.
I figured out the actors for #3, but had to IMDb the movie. If that’s okay, I’ll post the answer.
#3 is Dog Day Afternoon (Al Pacino and Chris Sarandon).
Oops, sorry Tom. Didn’t see your last post.
#5: Emma Thomson (Harry Potter flix) + Hugh Grant (Love, Actually) = Sense & Sensibility
Tom! You didn’t know Dog Day Afternoon based on Al Pacino & Chris Sarandon? That’s weird.
I knew Al Pacino and John Casale; Chris Sarandon I don’t remember.
I totally IMDBed this, so….
for #7 Crocker is “Miami Vice” so Colin Farrell, which gets us to “The New World” (I guess there’s a hunt in there? haven’t seen it) and Maria then is Q’Orianka Kilcher, who played a character named Maria in the TV show “Madison Heights” (but it’s a show I never even heard of, let alone saw).
Tom, Sarandon was the transsexual wife.
George, read it again, it isn’t “Crocker.”
The only thing that comes close to my mind is “The Searchers” for #7, but Fess Parker didn’t star in that, they WANTED him to star with Natalie Wood, but Disney wouldn’t let him.
Well, then put my answer down for #8.
And I will go make an eye appointment now.
Oh, and John Wayne played Davy Crockett in “The Alamo” so there’s the rest of Daven’s answer.
John Wayne played Davy Crockett in the 1960 The Alamo, so The Searchers works fine.
Damnit…. A group effort. Almost.
